“Worlds Within” is a journey though my glass worlds. When I made my first glass “pot melts” I was intrigued by the patterns and textures created by the molten glass as it flows through holes in the pots, or around metal strips. The “melts” are interesting and beautiful all on their own, but a chance photograph led to a whole new world. A friend looked at a quick picture of one of the first melts and pointed out what I had not seen, the outline of a horse’s head. Bright light and a macro setting on the camera brought out even more patterns that couldn’t be seen without magnification – often the area I am focusing on is one quarter inch in diameter. The glass came to life in a whole new way.
I will never understand why and how the glass creates what it does, and the glass does the creation, it is impossible to make it do exactly what I think it should. Yes, I have learned that stacking the glass in specific patterns will encourage it to flow in certain ways, and how high the pot is from the shelf will determine how broad or thin the glass stream is, but the rest is up to the nature of the glass.
As I look at each glass world I find areas that “wow” me in different ways. With a macro lens I can focus on details that are hidden, sometimes until I see them on the computer screen. Enlarging the images hundreds of times allows me to share them with everyone. Most of the images do not have titles. That is because I don’t want to influence what you see in them. A few do have a title simply because when I first saw them on the screen a word or name popped into my mind. Let your mind wander and see what you find. Sometimes is might be a creature, sometimes some kind of other-worldly plant life, sometimes a hot and sexy feeling, sometimes a calming sense of peace. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. Enjoy!
